This old skull lies in the grass of the abandoned whaling station of Grytviken, on South Georgia - one of the sub-Antarctic islands.

There are many remnants of the whaling trade, which ceased in the mid 1960's. Bones and rusting machinery are slowly being taken over, and taken apart, by plants, wildlife and the weather.
